The 1st of April is known for jokes and pranks but this is no joking matter, trying to get into the habit of remembering to test you smoke or fire alarm weekly or monthly is normally low on the list for most people but testing regularly can save lives. The Fire Kills Campaign have a great video to show that testing doesn’t have to be boring. Although the number of people that would test this way would be slim but looks great fun.
So the first of the month is test time.
With the weather due to go back to the lovely hot weather we had before the massive rain down pour I came across this nice simple video from FEMA on youtube and I think it is great at clearly showing how to be safe when BBQing or having a camp fire this summer. The main thing about a great BBQ or camp fire is everyone being safe. So follow these points for a great summer.
Keep the grills and fire pits away from your house and 3 foot from garden furniture.
Always use BBQ grills outside in a well ventilated area.
Keep pets and children away from the fire.
Don’t light gas grills with the lid shut.
Dispose of coal when they are cold.
And never leave anything lit unattended.

This is quite a common sight in the office and sometime even in your home. Extension cables plugged in to extension cables just so they can reach. Running multiple extension cables of each other is a hazard. If there are knots in the wires or they are all tied up together is a hazard. Having your plugs and extension cables organised means that if one of the cables gets a fault it can be quickly identified. Cables that are bundled up can heat up and if there is a fault can start a fire.
When we carry out risk assessments this is something we come across and our advice is simple, just take 10 minutes to tidy it up, a long lead extension cable doesn’t have to cost the earth. Cable ties and tidies are also inexpensive and easy to come by. These simple things could save you hundreds and even thousands of pounds if something were to happen.
